 Dr. Babaniyi. Babatope (CEO)

EMDI is a parastatal of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) under the supervision of Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST). EMDI has in particular the following mandates:
  • To undertake research and development works into processes and systems for conversion of raw and semi – processed materials into engineering materials of various types, sections and sizes, for application in machinery and equipment production.
  • To transfer engineering materials production technologies to private sector industries and government agencies and render consultancy and extension services to such and other organizations.
  • To establish and operate a physical and metallurgical laboratory for the testing of engineering materials of all types.
  • To collaborate with cognate government ministries and agencies in the design of its research and development programmes and projects.
  • To accept on terms specified by it, trainees for practical work attachment in its works.

Dr. Babaniyi Babatope resumed duty on the 1st of October 2005 as the Chief Executive Officer of EMDI. Prior to his assumption as the Director of the Institute, he was a Senior Lecturer in Materials Science at the Physics Department, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife. He obtained a B.Sc in Engineering Physics (Materials) in 1981 and an M.Sc in Engineering Physics (Materials Science & Engineering ) in 1985 from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife. Nigeria. He also obtained a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering in 1990 from the University of Wales, Swansea, Wales. U.K and an MBA in Corporate Management in 1993 from the  Swansea Institute of Higher Education, University of Wales, Swansea, U.K. >>>>
