NASENI recorded another Milestone The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) added yet another feather to its cap of achievements with the successful test-running/ Commisioning of an eight-mould interlocking brick making machine. The machine was designed by a combined team of engineers from from EMDI and NASENI while the actual development of the machine took place at EMDI, Akure.
The commisioning took place on 8th January, 2010 at EMDI by a team led by the Director General of NASENI, Prof. O. O. Adewoye FAS. The DG could not hide his happiness on the success of the project to the extent that he had to personally participate in the loading of the machine.
2009 NASENI Pre-Retirement Capacity Building Workshop In preparing her staff for retirement and ensuring a stress free work environment, NASENI organised a sensitization seminar titled "2009 Pre-Retirement capacity Building Workshop" for all her Institutes.
The workshop was held on 22nd December, 2009 at the conference Hall of the Institute. The papers delivered were "Health and Stress Management In and Out of Service" and "The role of Records Keeping and Computation of Retirement Benefits".
Director of DST/NRF pays a courtesy visit to EMDI The Director of DST/NRF Centre of Excellence in Strong Materials from the University of the Witwatetsrand, South Africa, Prof. Lesley A. Cornish and Prof. Frank Kavishe paid a courtesy visit to EMDI. The duo came came in the company of lecturers from the Materials department of the Federal University of Technology Akure on a familiarization tour to see the the facilities and equipment on ground in the Institute.
The African Materials Research Society (A-MRS) & the Materials Society of Nigeria (MSN) 2009 Annual Congress The 5th international Conference of A-MRS and 8th Nigeria Materials Congress (NIMACON) 2009, was held on the 13th to 18th December, 2009 at Abuja Sheraton Hotels & Towers, Abuja. The theme of the congress was "Nanotechnology, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technology for Africa". The congress was well attended by Researchers from both developed and developing countries.
Materials Community Stakeholders Meeting The first Materials R&D community ( from OAU ile-ife and FUT Akure) stakeholders meeting was held at the Institute on Tuesday 8th December, 2009 to do a SWOT analysis of the Institute especially on the equipment on ground and how these canbe maximised for materials R&D. The meeting had in attendance notable names in materials science and engineering such as Prof. A. Afonja, Prof. E. O. B. Ajayi, Prof. Kuku and Prof. B. Imasogie to mention a few.
Nanodevices Production Capacity Building & Workshop In-line with the Nation's Vision 202020, a capacity building and workshop on "Nanodevices Production " was organised by NASENI and The African Renaissance Institute of Science and Technology (ARIST) on fabrication of solar cells for the provision of alternative source of energy. This training took place between 26th and 30th October, 2009 at EMDI. Professor Wole Soboyejo and his team from the Department of Mechanical Aerospace Engineering, Princeton Institute of Science & Technology of Materials facilitated the training. Professor O.O. Adewoye FAS (DG NASENI) was in attendance to grace the opening ceremony.
Professor Momoh, NASENI Consultant visits EMDI Professor Momoh, a NASENI Consultant from the United States, paid a working visit to the Institute on 23rd November, 2009.
Osun State University Vice Chancellor visits EMDI
The University of Osun State Vice Chancellor who was represented by Prof. Diran and his team paid a courtesy visit to the institute on 29th October, 2009. .
WUSTO Vice Chancellor visits the Institute Towards the achievement of the Institute's mandate, the Vice Chancellor of Wesley University of Science & Technology, Ondo (WUSTO), Professor T. Badejo paid a visit to the Institute with his team on 16th October, 2009 and a Memoradum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by the Institute and WUSTO.
Conferment of 2009/2010 EMDI SCHOLAR Award An award of EMDI SCHOLAR was conferred on Miss Gift Robinson of Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure, on 16th October, 2009; who emerged as the overall best camper during the Young Materials Scientists Club (YOMASC) Retreat (that took place in the Institute between 16th and 22nd August).
Capacity Building on CNC Vertical Machining Center (VMC) To enhance local content participation and effective realization of Advanced Manufacturing Technology in the country NASENI took a step further by organizing an intensive 2 weeks capacity building program for representatives from the AMT centres. The program was held at EMDi from 5th to 16th October 2009.
Visit of the New Commanding Officer, 323 ADAR, Akure The New Commanding Officer of 323 Artillery Regiment (Nigerian Army), Owena Barracks, Akure, Lt. Col. O. Ofoche was on a courtesy visit to the Institute on 3rd September, 2009.
YOMASC Retreat The Young Materials Scientist Club Retreat was held Between 16th and 22nd August, 2009. Twenty two (22) students from the following schools were in attendance:

Founders' Day Celebration The Institute celebrated her 2009 founders' Day on 19th, August with the lecture on "Individuals and Organizational Effectiveness" delivered by Dr. Willy Siyanbola, DG National Center for Technology Management, O A U, Ile-Ife. He was represented by Mr. Biodun Egbetokun a Senior Officer at the center.
Installation of Vertical Machining Center (VMC)
Becoming one of the first twenty economies in the world by 2020 has necessitated the establishment of Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centres by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) strategically within the country (especially in all its centres). These centres are equipped with state of the art Computer Numerically Controlled Machines and from 29th July to 2nd August, 2009 a three man team from Chindon, China was at EMDI to install, test run and commission it's Vertical Machining Centre (VMC 750).
