  • Fabrication and characterization of solar cells;
  • Deposition of soluble and solid materials at a controlled environment;
  • Electrical characterization of materials, analyzing and interpretation of the results.

CHEMISTRY AND ELECTROCHEMISTRY
This group has remained a reference point in providing support to all research groups in the Advanced Materials Laboratory of the Institute and also plays a strategic role in nano-particle synthesis and production. The group is also involved in corrosion testing and evaluation of different engineering materials.
The current research interests of this group include:

  • Electrochemical and corrosion studies of ferrous and non-ferrous materials in static and dynamic;
  • Study of Fatty acid as a potent corrosion inhibition;
  • Corrosion behaviours of ductile iron in HCl, NaOH, Air, Cassava ,Slummy and Sea water;

PRODUCTION AND MANUFACTURING
This unit comprises of the Virtual Manufacturing Laboratory (VML) and the Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC). The VML applies such as Autocad , Pro/Engineer, Solid works to design, model and simulate the virtual working of machine components and subsequent refinements of designs prior to manufacture. In addition, such as Granta is used for material selection and quantifying.
The AMC is the development place where designs that have passed virtual simulation tests are machined and assembled. Machines and machine components that has been developed include:

  • Fabrication of various capacities of Rotary Furnace;
  • Fabrication of a microprocessor–controlled spin coater;
  • Fabrication of various capacities of Interlocking Brick Making Machine;
  • Fabrication of Salt Bath Furnace;
  • Fabrication of Closet-type Impeller Blower;
  • Fabrication of 300kg Recuperative Rotary Furnace;
  • Fabrication of Optimized Liquid Burner.
