COLLABORATION

Since its inception the Institute has successfully fulfilled its mandate in the area of collaboration with relevant government agencies, private sector and tertiary Institutions.

Education Trust Fund(ETF) 2002 Intervention
In 2002 the Institute in collaboration with the Education Trust Fund established the first Foundry Education Training Center in the Institute to train the trainers in Foundry Technology education. The center is equipped with the state of the art facilities like the 150kg Twin Induction Furnace, a Sand Mixer, 100kg Rotary Furnace, a Microhardness Tester, a Complete Metallographic Suite and Metallurgical Microscope.

Education Trust Fund(ETF) 2003 Intervention
Impressed by its delivery inthe 2002 intervention and its proposal to revamp foundry technology education in the country, the institute was commissioned by the ETF to manufacture 100kg Rotary Furnaces for selected institutions offering foundry technology in the six geo-political zones of the country. These furnaces were not only fabricated but also installed at the various schools and commssioned for immediate use.

Raw Materials Research and Development Council(RMRDC) Waste to Wealth Project
In joining the Presidential call(President Obasanjo) on optimizing cassava usage, the Institute with the RMRDC worked on the improvement of the wear resistance and surface strengthening of mild steel using cyanide waste from cassava leaves as the pack cyaniding medium.

Nigeria Building and Road Research Institute(NBRRI)
With NBRRI the Institute has successfully developed and manufactured to a commercializable level a twin interlocking brick making machine.

Princeston University,(USA)
In the area of knowledge exchange the Institute has been collaborating with the Princeston University and has had two exchange students from the university. They are Mr Thomas Woodson(Jan-Feb 2007), and Miss Tiffany Tong(August 2007) working on the Development of Conducting Polymer in the Polymer Electronics Laboratory of the Institute.

Hydraulic Equipment Development Institute (HEDI)-Kano
The Institute (EMDI) assisted HEDI-Kano in pattern making of pump body and other pump parts, Mark ‘4’ hand pump type. We have collaborated in the fabrication of Rotary Furnace parts.

Ultra Brain Technologies Ltd
We are currently collaborating with an SME in the prototyping of a microprocessor-controlled spin processor, a Reverse Engineering project .

Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHESTCO)
Makes available its advanced materials characterization equipments that are not available at EMDI and also collaborates with EMDI in the area of Nanotechnology.

National Engineering Design and Development Institute (NEDDI)-Nnewi:
We collaborate with NEDDI in the area of engineering design and reverse engineering.

Tertiary institutions
Several institutions of higher learning and the industry use EMDI’s laboratories, characterization and testing equipments and library facilities as essential part of their teaching, research and learning. We regularly receive researchers for sabbaticals

, students on Industrial experience from the Polytechnic and the universities and National Youth Corps personnel for research by rioting scientists, associate staff and research students.
